Freedom. The Freedoms This Country Has Faught For

We stand before you to discuss a topic that is close to our hearts and fundamental to our identity as Canadians - the importance of freedom. Freedom, in all its forms, is the bedrock upon which our great nation was built. It is the lifeblood that courses through the veins of our society, nurturing our values, our beliefs, and our way of life.

Freedom of speech, freedom of thought, freedom of expression - these are not just abstract concepts, but tangible rights that we, as Canadians, hold dear. They allow us to voice our opinions, to challenge the status quo, and to strive for a better, more inclusive society. They empower us to stand up for what we believe in, to fight for justice, and to make a difference in our communities.

However, recent concerns have been raised about potential censorship of news by the government. It is crucial to remember that a free press is a cornerstone of a democratic society. It holds power to account, provides citizens with the information they need to make informed decisions, and fosters transparency and accountability.

While it is the government’s role to protect its citizens, it must not do so at the expense of our freedoms. Any attempt to control or influence the news is not just an attack on the press, but an attack on our freedom. We must remain vigilant, stand up for our rights, and ensure that our voices are heard.

Let us remember, freedom is not just a right, but a responsibility. It is up to us, the people of Canada, to safeguard it, to cherish it, and to pass it on to future generations. Because freedom, is the very essence of being Canadian.
